| Editorial Dear Europeans,
With today’s session the convention will slowly but clearly move towards producing its first results. After weeks and months of talking and rhetoric, some decisions seem to be being taken in the convention at last.
The topics of this convention session are the results of the working groups I (sustainability) and III (legal personality). Both will be discussed at length in the Convention Plenary. Both documents are likely be approved, but this does not necessarily mean that they will find their way into the treaty in the same form as they are presented. Although both topics seem to be rather technical, they will have an important input in the future work of the convention. In the section “News from the Convention” you will find a short summary of the results of the first day of the convention meeting. In addition there is a report about a presentation from Giscard d’Estaing on the results of the convention, made shortly before the convention plenary started.
In this edition you will also find interviews with Teija Tiilikainen, who was present working group III, and with Linda McAvan MEP, who explains the Convention from a British perspective.
In addition to further articles about the convention, there are also new constitutional proposals this week. The proposal of the PES convention members is of some considerable importance as it represents the opinion of a third of the convention. Unfortunately it lacks the federalist content of the individual proposals of Duff, Brok, Malstroem and others.
The Youth Organisations and the Youth Contact group are still very active. It is hoped that the President and Vice-Presidents of the Youth Convention will be granted permanent status as Convention observers. The qim remains the same: promoting our proposals on how to achieve a Europe in which young people play an active role.
If you would like to contribute to the next edition of the bulletin, please send your contributions to mailto:info@constitutional-convention.net (deadline for the 14th issue is 14th October). As usual, you can read all articles of this Bulletin in full at the Constitutional Convention Homepage: http://www.constitional-convention.net/
