| Resolution of the World Federalist Movement Congress on the European Constitutional Convention, 15 July 2002 RESOLUTION ON THE CONVENTION
To be transmitted to the European Convention from the XXIVth Congress of the World Federalist Movement, London, UK, 15 July 2002
This Congress of the World Federalist Movement,
Considering that a process of European unification has been going on for many years, and the progress achieved has enabled internal conflicts amongst European states to be overcome, and brought progress in the civil, democratic and social development to Europeans, Whereas such progress has already generated supranational institutions such as the directly elected European Parliament and the unified European currency, the euro,
Considering it very important and urgent to achieve stronger and more democratic European institutions, also in view of the enlargement to more countries, and as a necessary step towards a better global political organisation, capable of promoting peace and progress in the world,
Believing that this development will be a useful model for the political unification process in other regional areas of the different continents, and will further the aims of improving global governance,
Whereas a European Convention has been established and is currently at work preparing proposals for a better European governance,
Strongly urges the European Convention to promote a European Federal Constitution, an effective federal government and the completion of the democratisation of the European Union institutions and practices.
