| Stands and Workshops organised for the session with Civil Society, 24-25 June 2002 Dear Members of the Organised Civil Society,
On 4 June 2002, the Citizens' Assembly 2004, which brought together the great majority of European NGO networks during the December 2001 Laeken Summit, held its Second Co-ordination Meeting on the 24-25 June 2002 European Convention's hearings of the organised civil society.
The organisations represented were: AEGEE Europe, AGORA, ATD-Quart Monde, ATTAC, CELSIG, COFACE, Crocodile Club, EFAH, EBLUL/BELMR, EPHH, Europa Nostra, European Environmental Bureau, FAI-ACLI, Foundation for Solidarity and Voluntary Work of the Valencian Community, Initiative and Referendum Institute Europe, International European Movement, OCIPE, Permanent Forum of Civil Society, Polish NGO Office, Young European Federalists, New Life, VIVANT, World Mothers' Movement. The Citizens' Assembly proposals to set-up 8 thematic stands in the open space of the European Parliament (i.e. on the bridge between the ASP and PHS buildings covering 48 meters of space) - as well as to organise of a two-day Workshop - on 24-25 June 2002, was positively received by numerous European NGOs and umbrella organisations and by the task force of the European Parliament.
The 8 thematic stands will cover the 8 themes outlined by the Convention's Presidium: Regional and Local Authorities, Culture, Academia and Think Tanks, Social Sector, Citizens and Institutions, Human Rights, Environment and Development.
At the end of each Contact Group's meeting, a representative of the Citizen Assembly will invite the participating organisations to register in the stand linked with the Contact Group. The organisation of each stand will be co-ordinated by a sectoral organisation of each Contact Group.
The Workshop divided into four Working Groups covering horizontal themes (1. Identity and European Citizenship, 2. The European Union in a Globalised World, 3. European Democracy and Subsidiarity, 4. Social Cohesion and Sustainable Development), will also take place in the European Parliament, on 24 June 2002 in the morning and 25 June 2002 in the afternoon (in order not to overlap with the European Convention's hearings).
For security reasons, the Citizens' Assembly needs to provide the European Parliament's Security with a list of participants to the stands and the Working Groups. Even though the European Convention's Presidium will probably select 2 persons only - from each organisation registered in the Contact Groups - to attend the hearings in the Plenary, much more people can attend the transversal Working Groups.
So please do not hesitate to disseminate the information to your membership and send us a list of participants, using the attached registration form.
The next co-ordination meeting of the Citizens' Assembly will take place on
19 June 2002 at 13h00, in the premises of the European Forum on the Arts and Heritage (Rue de Suisse 18, B-1060 Brussels).
Please confirm your attendance at the following address: mailto:citizensassembly@europe.com
With kind regards,
Benjamin Desurmont
