| Press release - Federalists mark Europe Day with more than 250 events all over the continent Released on 8 May 2003
With over 250 events on 9 May, the European Federalists (JEF, UEF) will take their vision for a more united and democratic Europe to the streets. Europe Day is a good opportunity to promote the European idea all over the continent - in EU countries, future member states and beyond. The European Federalists will be on the spot with discussion forums, info stands, information actions and European parties. Many things to celebrate
As the Enlargement Treaty has just been signed and the European Constitution is almost finished, European Federalists have many reasons to celebrate. On 9 May we will share the European spirit with the people and ask them to vote for or against a Federal Europe. At the same time federalists in some accession countries will try to convince the public to support EU membership in the forthcoming referendums.
Actions will also take place in Macedonia, Moldova, Croatia, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Norway to show that the European vision does not stop at the borders of the EU.
Inspired by Europe!
“I am happy to see that so many people of different ages and nationality want to celebrate Europe day together”, says Alison Weston, President of the Young European Federalists. “This is a sign that civil society and especially young people are really inspired by the European idea!”
Note to the editors:
Every year on 9 May the Young European Federalists (JEF) and the Union of European Federalists (UEF) organise a trans-national campaign to inform the public of European issues and to promote the idea of a federal Europe.
Please find attached a list of the places, where the Europe Day activities take place. For further details on the activities, please consult our website at http://www.jef-europe.net/campaigns/static/euromap.html.
