| European Journalism Centre: Covering the EU Constitution The European Journalism Centre from Maastricht is organising a set of seminars explaining the EU Constitution. The event is supported by the Secretariat-General of the European Commission Outline
The EJC is organising an extensive programme of seminars focusing on different aspects of the draft EU constitution. The seminars will give journalists background information, the latest news and ideas on how to cover questions related to the constitution.
Seminars will cover key current debates on the draft constitution during the Irish Presidency of the EU as well as explaining the background to the constitution. The following seminars will be organised:
March 22-24
Justice and Freedoms (includes immigration, Schengen, freedom of movement etc); two seminars (English)
March 29-31
Foreign and Security Policy, two seminars (English)
April 5-7
Democratic Union ( includes charter of fundamental rights, rules on openness etc); two seminars (English)
April 26-28
Economic and Finance Policies, two seminars (English)
May 3-5
The EU Constitution for young readers, two seminars (English)
May 17-19
Justice and Freedoms, one seminar(French), Foreign and Security Policy , one seminar (French)
May 24-26
Justice and Freedoms, two seminars (English)
June 7-9
Democratic Union , two seminars (English)
The seminars are open to journalists from the 25 current and new member states, plus the candidate countries Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey.
The programme is organised at the initiative of the European Commission and of the European Parliament.
Journalists can present their candidature by sending a letter explaining their interest in the seminars, a reference from the editor and a curriculum vitae to the EJC to Marjan Tillmans tillmans@ejc.nl, or Bianca Lemmens lemmens@ejc.nl.
Candidates must indicate the date and subject of the seminar they wish to attend.
