Administrator, European Communities' delegation to the National Assembly (1981-1983); administrator, Committee on Foreign Affairs (1983-1988); adviser to Laurent Fabius, President of the National Assembly (1988-1992).
Socialist Party national secretary responsible for development cooperation (1993-1995); Member of the Socialist Party national bureau (since 1993). President of Gauche européenne - France (European Left - France) (since 1995).
Chairwoman of the French Socialist delegation in the European Parliament (since June 1997); Vice-chairwoman of the PSE Group with responsibility for institutional affairs, the Charter, the third pillar (justice and home affairs) and legal matters; Vice-chairwoman of the European Parliament's delegation to the Convention for the drawing up of a draft Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union.
