Biography
Represents Gdynia in the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
Born: 1947 in Rumia.
Education:
Completed the Mechanical and Electrical Technical School in Gdańsk and, in 1972, graduated from the Mechanical Technology Faculty at Gdańsk Technical University. In 1974, obtained the scientific title of Doctor of Technical Sciences and, in 1983 - Doctor Habilitated of Technical Sciences. Obtained the Professor's title in 1991. Between 1976 and 1977, worked on a research project in Great Britain.
Author of 150 scientific publications and seven monographs, as well as over 90 corporate expert opinions and studies.
Employment:
Since 1972, works at Gdańsk Technical University. Was the Deputy Dean and Dean of its Machine Construction Faculty and during two terms, between 1990 and 1996, presided the University.
Was Chairman of the Council of Presidents of Higher Educational Institutions in Vistulian Pomerania and, between 1994 and 1996, chaired the Conference of Presidents of Polish Higher Technical Educational Institutions. Between 1996 and 1999, was Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council on Higher Education.
Member of the Gdańsk Scientific Society, Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and several scientific committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Co-founder of the Polish Academic and Economic Forum. Member of the Kashubian Pomerania Association and Deputy Chairman of the Kashubian Institute.
Political Career:
Member of the Solidarity Trade Union.
In the 4th term Senate, chaired the Science and National Education Committee. Was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and chaired the Polish parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Conference of the Baltic Region.
Between July 2000 and October 2001 - Minister of National Education.
