General Secretary of the Lorraine Metalworkers' Union (CFDT) (1965-1971). National Secretary of the Metalworking Federation (CFDT) (1971-1976). Confederal Secretary of the CFDT, responsible for international policy (1976-1993).
Member of the ETUC Executive Committee (1977-1992). Member of the ICFTU Executive Committee (1989-1992). Member of the ILO Administrative Council (1990-1995).
ESC member (since 1992). President of the Section for External Relations, Trade and Development Policy (1994-1996). President of Group II (since 1996).
