Contrasting visions over a European Congress

A working group examining the role of national parliaments in a future European Union were unable to agree on the idea for a European people's congress. Part of a series of working groups currently reporting back to the Convention on the Future of Europe, the group "took note" of the idea and recommended that it come under "further examination" in the Convention. Gisela Stuart, the group's chair, will present the findings at this week’s plenary session of the Convention, beginning Monday afternoon.
