Convention: religious debate still on the boil

The debate on the role of religion in the building of a future European Union is still gaining momentum. Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner, Antonio Vitorino, met on Tuesday with religious organisations to talk about the place of religion in the Convention on the future of Europe.

This follows a meeting last month in Rome between Convention President, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and Pope John Paul II to discuss the possible inclusion of a reference to Europe’s religious heritage in the future Constitutional Treaty.
