Constitution to be checked by language experts

The draft European Constitution is currently undergoing the rigours of the Académie Française in an attempt to rid the tome of awkward 'Brussels-speak'.

Convention President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing sent the over 400-page document to be assessed by the strict watchdogs of the French language last week.

In the 16-month run up to the document being produced, Mr Giscard has come under fire for using language that is difficult and far removed from the very people who are supposed the read it - the European citizen.
