Convention to debate last minute changes

The Convention will meet for the second to last time today (Friday) to debate some of the issues still open in the draft EU constitution.

The 105-member body will gather in Brussels for a collective discussion on the blueprint, despite the tiny mandate that they have.

Approved by leaders at the Thessaloniki Summit on 20 June, Convention members are allowed to make only "purely technical" adjustments to the draft treaty.

1700 amendments
The realms of "purely technical" are unclear - which could be a problem as there are around 1700 amendments to the third 'policy' part of the treaty.
